Ego and asanas

If practicing asanas fires up your ego, making you feel superior or inferior, you’re not practicing yoga asanas, you’re just executing physical poses.

And you’re doing yourself a disservice. Even if your goal isn’t Self-realization, it’s easy to see that attachment to your ego (I am good/I am bad) will inevitably bring you pain and take you further away from peace of mind.

Practicing asanas with a competitive spirit – either with yourself or others – will bring you more harm than good. Relax and enjoy your asana practice as it is. Rejoice in the release of tension and building of health, without judgment or expectation upon yourself or others.
